Energia, catàlisi i medi ambient són camps íntimament relacionats i amb importants implicacions socioeconòmiques. El grup SelOxCat centra la seva recerca en el camp de la fotosíntesi artificial, mitjançant l'estudi, comprensió i desenvolupament de les reaccions clau implicades en la producció eficient d’hidrogen renovable, així com la de combustibles líquids neutres en carboni a partir de CO2. El grup SelOxCat afronta aquests importants reptes a partir de dues perspectives: (1) El desenvolupament de (foto)electrocatalitzadors híbrids molècula-material a la nanoescala, explorant dissenys modulars y ajustables que permetin racionalitzar els principis que dicten la seva selectivitat, estabilitat i eficiència i, (2) El disseny de noves interfases catalitzador-elèctrode que incrementin l’estabilitat i densitat de corrent dels (foto)electròdes resultants, permetent així la seva introducció en cel·les fotoelectroquímiques amb aplicació pràctica.
