The Institute of Medieval Studies was created as an institution on the 25th of October 1973 and set up by a publication in BOE number 273, on the 14th of  November 1973.

The Institute of Medieval Studies is an independent institution, although it is officially  attached to the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.

It is the main purpose of the Institute to promote, develop and carry out advanced research on medieval studies, as well as to become a major higher education centre at both national and international levels. The Institute of Medieval Studies attached to the FIDEM.
