To promote responsible research, knowledge transfer to public and to private sectors as well as
to train a new generation of highly qualified scientists in the cross-disciplinary field of
Industrial and Medical Biotechnology (white and red biotechnology). Specifically, the main
objective is to develop sustainable biotechnological processes intensified and optimized to
obtain products of interest for the chemical, pharma, medical, food and health industries and
to provide real-time analytical monitoring to improve the quality of products and processes
The research interests are focused on 1) microbial production of recombinant proteins and low
molecular weight molecules 2) vaccines, proteins for diagnostic and gene and cells therapies,
3) multi-enzymatic processes including stereo selective synthesis 4) Integrating Process
Analytical Technology (PAT), Quality by Design (QbD), internet of things (IoT), and artificial
intelligence (AI), considered as key technologies in the industry 4.0
