ELBEC is a highly interdisciplinary language education research group that originated from the
certainty that even the best research efforts and findings are of little value if they do not
reach schools. ELBEC works to bring evidence-based practices to the Language classroom. We
depart from the premise that language teachers and practitioners should be scientificallyeducated professionals who must use their best judgement and theoretical background, in
combination with state-of-the-art, scientifically-grounded practices. ELBEC's mission is thus
to produce transferrable, high-quality evidence on spoken and written language learning and
teaching, so that practitioners and policymakers may derive effective classroom practices. We
are concerned with all aspects of language education, particularly written, academic uses of
language. We are dedicated to understanding teachers’ and practitioners' practices, attitudes,
and beliefs about language and language teaching in a variety of contexts.
