Resum
Aiming to assess the main trends concerning contemporary Beijing opera productions, this paper will study the processes by which the genre has been reformed during the 20th century and the first decade of the 21st, while its structure was being defined until becoming nowadays a symbol of Chinese cultural identity. To that aim, the proposed analysis will focus on the reforms undertaken in the first decades of the 20th century, during the Maoist period and from the 80s until now, as well as the policies for its safeguard carried out in the last years.
