The social landscape of the wine production in the Ager Barcinonensis: Slaves, freedmen and institores

The paper analyzes the main forms of land ownership during the early empire in the colony of Barcino, and its relationship with the wine and amphorae production. The study allows us to identify the production strategies of some families (gentes) from the colonia, and how amphorae production implied an important social and territorial mobility. The role of slaves and freedmen is analyzed within this "social landscape", where, in some exceptional cases, they reached the condition of institores and even landowners.
