A methodology for the synthesis of mixed-topology filters based on parallel-connected structures with acoustic wave technology is presented. Ladder topology is very common with AW resonators. In this topology, series resonators are used to introduce transmission zeros in the upper band by means of antiseries resonance. Meanwhile, shunt resonators implement them in the lower band by means of series resonance. This kind of configuration provides a simple topology but imposes a severe restriction with a balanced transmission zeros distribution around the bandpass. The proposed method describes a procedure to design ladder-like filters in which the resonant frequency of the resonators may not be tied to transmission zeros at finite frequencies, providing a more flexible design where transmission zeros above or below the bandpass can be allocated arbitrarily. The technology-oriented method, takes into account the accommodation of technological constraints of the filter from a lowpass domain perspective in order to reach feasible solutions.
