N2 - Sarcopenia, defined as the loss of muscle strength, is considered one of the leading causes of disability in older people and its prevalence increases with age. Those who suffer Sarcopenia have higher rates of disability and dependence. Despite numerous investigations, there are no standardized diagnostic criteria for Sarcopenia. Different methods are proposed to diagnose it, and what is most recommended is the measure of handgrip strength. Although there have been many studies on the effectiveness of different treatment approaches, the only one that offers enough scientific evidence seem to be the exercise programs that include moderate or intense intensity endurance, associated with a balanced diet. In the future, more studies are needed to establish diagnostic criteria capable of identifying people with this disease in its early stages, as well as to define people at risk in order to establish an appropriate therapeutic approach or prevention.
