N2 - This paper deals with the design of the reference controller on a 2-DOF controller configuration with respect to the optimization of a linear quadratic Gaussian (LQG) type cost function. Although different configurations have been used in the literature, here we would like to show the particular advantages of using a special control configuration that allows a complete separated and independent design of the feedback and reference part of the controller. Results concentrate on the SISO case and exploit the polynomial approach to the solution of the LQG problem. © 2007 Springer-Verlag.
