Introduction. Granuloma annulare is a benign dermatosis which has several clinical manifestations. A clinical variant of recent description is the named patch granuloma annulare, We describe five cases and review the literature. Patients and methods. We include five patients who developed skin lesions compatible with patch granuloma annulare. A punch-biopsy specimen of skin was obtained in all patients. The epidemiologic, clinical and histologic features of the five patients were evaluated. Results. Four women and a man 58 to 66 years of age had patches on the extremities during several months, All of them had erythematous patch lesions from 5 to 15 cm of diameter. They were localized on thighs except for one case who had the lesions on forearms. Three patients, had an only lesion, and the others bilateral and symmetrical ones. Histologic examination showed an interstitial infiltrate of lymphocytes and histiocytes with diffuse necrobiosis and mucin deposition. Conclusion, Patch granuloma annulare is characterized by erythematous patch lesions with centrifugal growth, Histologic examination shows a lymphohistiocytic infiltrate with an interstitial pattern. A high index of suspicion both clinically and histologically aids in making the diagnosis.
