Resum
Milton Santos (1926-2001) was one of the responsible for the renewal of the geography in the decade of 1970 at international level and in Brazil. This geographer situated the discipline in the field of social sciences, promoting the dialogue between social theory and the geographical ones, collaborating in the construction of this last one. Besides, he believed in the need to produce a geographical theory from the periphery. His critical positions were complemented with existentialistic categories that could contribute to the construction of a better world, based not only in the reason but also in the emotion.
