The diminution of the impact of the distance, in the exchange of material and nonma-
terial flows, in the economic activity networks has changed the business structure. In order
to survive and consolidate, firms have to face new methods and make diverse decisions in

the location process. On the other hand, changing regional competitive determinants offer
advantages and challenges in the location of firms. New economy reorganizes the global
regions and generates a new industrial location model. The main objective of this article is
to analyze the changes in the local development of remote areas in Catalonia caused by the
increase of the nonmaterial flows during the productive process of the firm.
