Resum
In a climate change context, Mediterranean area is undergoing an increased frequency of droughts, which can make forest fires more frequent. The severity of wildfires is enhanced by the abundance of fine fuel: thus, strategies to encourage their removal are needed. In this context, Life BIOREFFORMED has implemented a Mediterranean biorefinery to boost forest management to produce renewable chemicals and fuels from forest biomass using torrefaction and pyrolysis. Several types of forest are studied: post-fire regenerated forests, cork oak forest and post-disturbance o decayed forests. First results indicate the possibility of using torrefied solid fraction of Aleppo pine as solid biofuel.
