La evolución del acceso a la universidad en Cataluña: ¿Cómo la explicamos?

This contribution to the debate about crisis effects is focused on the university access issue, in particular is centered on the Catalan university. Using data provided by the Oficina de Pre-inscripció Universitaria (CIC-OPU) we analyze the evolution of the entrance to university over three periods of time: before the crisis, during the first part of the crisis (2008-2011), and throughout the second part (2011-2014), where there was a slight improvement of the young labor market and an important rise in university fees. In the first part we find a raise increment in university enrolment, thus giving support to the opportunity cost hypothesis. In the second period, we observe a decrease for some specific student profiles. Finally we give some examples of the strategies students build in order to enrol into univeristy, in order to interpret last period trends.
