Resum
Because of both its essential meaning and its distinctive characteristics, the History of Mentalities is the most controversial area of recent historiography. Its noteworthy expansion and development in Spain stems principally from three types of sources: literature, notarial protocols and documentation surrounding the Inquisition. However, the problems involved in its use, especially evident with regard to the Inquisition, can help us to analyze the different conceptions underlying the proliferation of such studies over the past few years, in addition to indicating the future orientations of this fiels of study
