Resum
The role of vertebrate herbivory and plant competition in the resprouting dynamics of the Mediterranean shrub Erica multiflora was investigated by caging and removal of neighbours. Removal of neighbours increased the number of alive and dead sprouts within the stump only m caged target plants. However, it did not modify the percentage of branched sprouts, length of the longest sprout, mean length and mean biomass of the sprouts. Neighbours and caging did not change length and biomass variability of sprouts. Competition and herbivory had an interactive effect on E. multiflora resprouting: resprouting was not affected by vertebrate herbivory if target plants are surrounded by neighbours.
