© The Royal Society of Chemistry 2015. A new healing surface coating technology based on the incorporation of hybrid melamine-formaldehyde-polyurethane (MF/PU) microcapsules which contain a healing mixture, into standard polyurethane surface coatings, is described. Microcapsules release the healing mixture upon surface scratching after mechanical damage.
