Gender perspective in the design and use of urban public spaces: The case of Parc dels Colors (Mollet del Vallès, Barcelona)

This paper presents some of the results obtained from the research carried out by the author into the effect of changes in the urban landscape on people's daily lives, and in particular, on the use and appropriation of public spaces from a gender perspective. The result of this urban action did not make population indifferent. In this sense we have been interested in ascertaining the residents response, particularly the use and appropriation of the space as well as the creation of a sense of belonging. Gender, age, social condition and the geographic origin are decisive aspects in the effect of changes in the urban landscape on people's daily lives. Therefore, we consider that this kind of analysis can contribute to a planning of public spaces that encourages social integration.
