Resum
In this article we lay the theoretical foundations of a teaching unit, aimed at primary students, to interpret what happens to living beings when there is a forest fi re. Such foundations relate to three aspects: a) construction of the school theoretical model of living being in the framework of school science; b) scales of observation in the model and their use as a conceptual tool to move from the phenomenon to its theoretical interpretation; and c) use of a dynamic scale model as a didactical mediator allowing us to negotiate students' representations regarding the phenomenon. We present the concrete design of the instructional unit that was used in the classroom and we reflect on the teaching of three interrelated models: living being-cell, living being-organism and living being-ecosystem.
