Resum

The influence of four-wave mixing effects on the absorption of a weak standing-wave (SW) laser beam probing a Doppler- broadened three-level system saturated by a SW pump is analysed theoretically for the case of an optically thin sample. It is shown that, for values of the pump and probe wavenumbers permitting the phase-matching condition, each travelling- wave probe component affects strongly the absorption of the counter-propagating wave. Some calculated spectra are reported evidencing the role of the relative phase between the pump and probe SW beams. © 1984.
