Resum

Avogaro offers an outline of the positions of the main German and Italian trade unions facing the upcoming technological transformation identified as Industry 4.0. The author focuses attention, first of all, on the modifications brought by informatics and digitization on the typical organization of work in manufacturing. Afterwards, he shifts the analysis to the main policies suggested, in particular, by German IG Metall and Italian FIM-CISL and the main issues raised by “workers 4.0”: continuous vocational training, work–life balance and evolution of tasks. The final part of the chapter is devoted to the analysis of practical examples of solutions found by collective agreements to balance workers’ requests and the innovations deriving from the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
