Resum

Endo/exogamy refers to the marriage union within / outside of a particular social group or category, respectively. Endogamy is the rule that stipulates the group or category within which a person can be matched; while exogamy is the rule that determines who we cannot match with and urges to look for a partner outside the group itself. However, the phenomenon of endo/exogamy transcends the rules of kinship, while the group or category in relation to which the union is prohibited or prescribed, is not limited only to the area of kinship, but also covers factors such as the religious or ethnic group. For this reason, endo/exogamy constitutes one of the most important tests to study the social structure and relationships between groups in a society.
