Elites in conflict. The impact of the Mithridatic Wars in the poleis of Asia Minor

The article tries to examine the impact of the Mithridatic Wars in some of the most important poleis of the province of Asia, through the analysis of their civic elites. Although we can establish a general trend, every community had their characteristics and their own circumstances and they evolved in a particular way after the conflict. Centres such as Pergame or Mytilene managed to maintain a social structure more or less resistant to the Roman influences, as well as powerful traditional elites able of leading the recovery and restoring the relationship with Rome. In others, such as in Ephesus, social mobility and a mixed ruling class in which the resident Ro-maioi played a basic role may be equally attested.
