Resum

The article evaluates the role of the tourism sector in the Strategy for Sustainable Development in Catalonia. The first phase was comprised of: an analysis of tourism in Catalonia; a diagnosis of impacts and challenges; proposals for measures. The second phase consisted of integrating the sector proposals in a wide-ranging strategy, a process that led to significant omissions. The final document constitutes a comprehensive programme for increasing overall sustainability, that should be complemented with individual sector plans.
