Resum
Felix Lope de Vega, in his play El amante agradecido (c. 1602), writes a praise to Felipe II, after the death of the king in 1598. The praise, almost three hundred lines dedicated to the gravestone that the city of Seville built in honour of Felipe II, does not really belong with the main purpose of the play: an urban comedy with a lot of picaresque components. This article focuses on why the writer included that sort of eulogy and studies the different sources of the fragment.
