Resum

This essay analyzes some basic features of the regulation of trade in ancient Greece, and in the relationships between Greeks and other peoples, especially during the late archaic and the classic periods. The «international» trade of this time, especially as far as maritime trade was concerned, would have been based on quite sophisticated commercial usage and contractual practice. Cities and local powers also had an important role in the regulation of trade, mainly for ordering the markets, forwarding their economic interests (ensuring supplies was of utmost importance) and obtaining tax revenues.
