Resum
The genetic engineering techniques are coupled with spectroscopic analysis to characterize the metal-binding properties of the beta fragment of mouse metallothionein 1. UV absorption and CD titrations of recombinant Zn-3-beta MT with CdCl2 show formation of a Cd-3-beta MT species, now reported for the first time. In addition, further Cd(II) induces refolding of the protein to form a Cd-9-beta MT species with a supercoiled 3D structure that exhibits a unique CD spectrum.
