Resum

Single solvent and sequentital solvent extraction methods were used for analysing Cu and Zn concentrations in different fractions of alkaline soils occurring on, nearby, or off a malachite (Cu2(OH)2(CO3)2 outcrop in Barcelona (North-East Spain). Copper and Zn concentrations in the fractions were correlated to the concentrations of these metals in plant species that spontaneously occur on the soils. The usefulness of extraction methods for determining Cu and Zn availability to plants on alkaline soils and the strategies of plants for adapting to soils with a wide range of Cu concentrations is discussed. © 1995, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
