Resum

38 acute dystonias of iatrogenic origin are presented. The authors divide the causal agents into 4 groups: butyrophenolic derivatives, 16 cases; metoclopramide, 6 cases; tiethylperacine, 6 cases; and a heterogeneous group of phenothiazine derivatives, 10 cases. For each of them, the following was studied: the period of time elapsing between the beginning of therapy and the first clinical manifestations (latency time), the total minimum dose causing the crises, distribution by age and sex, reasons for administration of the various drugs, doctors prescribing the drugs, diagnosis on referral. These parameters are discussed and mention is made of the high frequency of acute dystonias due to butyrophenolic derivatives, an unusual finding in the literature reviewed.
