Resum
The aim of this paper is to provide a catalog of translation techniques from a pragmatic and communicative approach. This new approach allows the translator to access some key information that is not currently included in lexicographical or terminographical resources: The extent to which there is coincidence between the target language / culture equivalent proposed and the concept behind the term of the source language / culture. Solutions are provided for the different possible situations, in order for the translator to be able to make informed terminological decisions. Therefore, the paper tackles the different possibilities the translator has when the source language/ culture concept does not exist or does not fit exactly with the concept in the target language / culture. For each of the translation techniques proposed, examples are given from two different fields, translation of oriental philosophical texts between distant languages/cultures and legal translation between languages that belong to different legal families.
