1925-1927: Concerning the Diccionario usual and the Diccionario manual

Between 1925 and 1927 the Academia published the 15th edition of the Dictionary of the Spanish language (Diccionario de la lengua española) and the first edition of the Manual Illustrated Dictionary of the Spanish language (Diccionario manual e ilustrado de la lengua española). These projects were fundamental to the lexicographical evolution of the Academia. In this study, both projects are analyzed in their entirety, both macro and microstructurally, dealing especially with those aspects which were most novel - scientific and technical vocabulary, dialecticisms, usage etc. -, and registering all of these things in the academic framework in which they were developed. The conclusion permits the characterization of both projects, from the 14 th edition on, as two parallel dictionaries with different objectives, which mark a before and after in Spanish lexicographical tradition.
